Group Declares Nationwide Protest Against Tinubu Government, Demands Sack of IGP Egbetokun

According to the group, the protest is aimed at challenging what they describe as increasing repression, human rights violations, and democratic decline under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In their public statement, the movement accused the Tinubu government of rolling back democratic progress achieved since 1999. They alleged that the current administration has repeatedly violated fundamental rights, including freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and the constitutional right of citizens to express dissent. The group stated that Nigeria is gradually sliding into authoritarianism.

One of the group’s strongest demands is the immediate sack of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. They accuse him of leading a police force that engages in corruption, brutality, intimidation, and consistent abuse of power. The movement is calling for justice for victims of police violence, compensation for affected families, and an end to illegal profiling, arrests without warrants, and excessive use of force during peaceful protests.

The announcement of this nationwide protest comes at a time when many Nigerians are facing severe economic hardship, high inflation, unemployment, and rising insecurity.
