A popular Fulani influencer, Ibrahim Dan Arewa, has appealed to Nigerians to stop associating Fulani people with terrorism, stressing that true Fulani men do not carry AK-47 rifles. His message comes amid rising cases of insecurity in different parts of the country, often linked to individuals wrongly labeled as Fulani. 

In a viral video circulating online, the influencer explained that the original Fulani culture is peaceful, community-driven, and built on values of humility, tradition, and respect. Dan Arewa emphasized that real Fulani herders are known for their cattle, their calabashes, their traditional attire, and their nomadic lifestyle—nothing about them involves carrying sophisticated weapons. He warned Nigerians not to generalize crime across an entire tribe because of the actions of unknown armed groups.

He added that these criminals taking advantage of the Fulani name are not representing the tribe in any way. Instead, their activities have created tension, fear, and unnecessary hatred toward innocent Fulani families who are simply trying to survive and preserve their cultural identity.
